Int(a)xicated on 28 feb....every year...

Quote: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

The nation's (Inda's) budget has been presented on 28th of February (which also incidentally to be our national science day). Time and again, i have seen our finance ministers who keep smiling with a brown coloured briefcase in his hand, spelling out the most (stupid) surprises every year.

This year it was no different except for the finance minister to present his speech on native dhoti (Aam aadmi...yaar!!!). Coming to the point, if i go through the points which are highlighted in this year, I couldn't see a single point which is very much different from the previous year by PC.

I believed that there might be major allocation happening on the Infrastructure/Primary Education/Agriculture to focus on the area which needs more long term vision and realistic goals. But most of the key points just resembles that the old wine has been well packaged in "Tetrapaks".

I strongly believe that we desperately need the second "Green Revolution" as pointed out by Ram in my discussions, the plan to open up retail / next phase of IT and telecom (targetting a greater level of penetration of PCs / Bandwidth / computing infrastructure to sustain the global competition and sail against the next wave.)

I also want my taxation to be simple and straight and far from complexity. I was reading a good article, which was hard-hitting how bollywood heroes and samajawadi thakurs who are still "gifting" bentleys/maybachs but they don't fall under the scanner of either VDIS / 6-in-1 scheme.

To stay in india and pay taxes as a "salaried class" is really a pain in the a***.
I still don't understand why a doctor/lawyer/anybody who does private practice does not fall into the category of salaried class and who is also subjected to the same pain/torture as any middleclass guy.

The last time when i heard that the MP/MLA whose monthly salary is close to 4k (note this is salary, i am talking about hidden / fringe benefits...). Say even after the implementation of 5th pay commission, it could have gone up to 10K. But I have never seen a MLA/MP in india who lives within the 10K. Possibly, i believe there are few guys in Pondicherry (the CM of Pondicherry was going on cycle...paavam...pozhaikka theriyadhavan!!!).

It is high time that the Government of India (India Inc to refer in ET slang), to act as a Profit centre and speed up the projects and cut short the revenue losses and scrutinise the loopholes in tax system to accommodate greater number of people and reduce the tax burden of individual.

All these are very much possible, when you have a majority government with few individuals at helm with a clear thinking and not fiddling with issues of vote bank politics.
