The markets in India (as well as the other asian markets) were in red for couple of days following the tremors that the US markets are heading for recession. Of late, I have not been watching markets too keenly except for my portfolio, it was quite astonishing that the markets have time and again proved all the critics could go wrong.
It is easy to be a Harsha Bhogle of Stock Markets than as a Sachin to face Shoaib Akthars' (markets plummeting to all-time lows). If at all i have understood few words of wisdom from pitamah of markets "Swami Warren Buffet Maharaj" of Berkshire Hathways Mutt, it is just not to follow anybody and use your own instincts / analytics to buy/sell in markets.
I haven't escaped unhurt in this big bang, but one thing i would suggest and advise all of my friends is to be ready to take bloodbaths if required, as you cannot be playing Rahul Dravid in Markets. Stock Markets in India as became a fascination to anybody to enter more like a Exhibition (porutkatchi in tamil) where people will flock with their folks and goto different stalls and try different things out there right from buying a appalam to merry-go-round.
I sincerely believe that people need to talk seriously about markets, understand it better before stepping into markets. If not all T-nagar mamis and LIC mamas might have to lose out their post retirements benefits as the some time back with chit funds offering 30% interest and 2% incentive ("uka thogai in tamil"), whereas your "principal" might be with a cinema guy.
I believe in India's Growth story on seeing india by road last time, I could analyse about the scope of Infrastructure industry's growth in it. I have few advisors within my family who follow the markets more professionally than i am. But still i believe the onus is on the individual's instinct to predict and place your requests.
If there is only thing i love in the last 5-7 years, its nothing but art of making money and markets. To me as it is to many, it is an art, it can be taught to somebody, probably you can fine tune / refine few steps, but no padma subramaniam can change any dumb girl to a danseuse. It requires a methodical research and study, observation skills, extensive reading right from fiction to geography and what we call intuition to make a mark.
If you read my last few lines, People from sampras to sachin, buffet to bill gates, Kalam to kamal hassan would have these skills to succeed. Thats the reason, I said it is an art.
