Mendeleev and Melakarthas

As the title suggests, i always had a fascination to when i read and observed the mela kartha raagas (which are basic "mother" raagas - 72 in number) had a similarity with mendeleev's periodic tables. The similarity which i have noticed (could be done by lots of ppl who can relate the "chemistry" between bhilari and shankarabharanam).

Basically the 72 raagas can be classified into 2 sections (one with "shuddhamadhyamam(it denotes swara ma)" and the other set with "prathimadhyamam" (in languages, it has to be "nedil/badi ma").It has another classical history that these classification of raagas follow
Katapayadi sankhya shastra. This technique is more like a modern day algorithm which classifies the raagas and number them based on the mathematical numbers and swarastanas.

If you see the periodic tables advocated by
dmitri mendeleev, he classifies them based on valency and weight. similarly the chemical elements have been grouped as alkali, alakaline earth, halogens etc, as the raagas are classified and grouped as different chakras namely indu / netra/ rishi /agni etc (12 chakras and each chakra contains 6 raagas).

As the number of valence shell determines the elements in different groups / families, similarly the change in different permutations of the swaras determine their order and chakra.

Apart from my observation, i even read very recently that when dmitri mendeleev was naming the elements he names 3 of the elements in sanskrit as well, which were renamed later.

Another observation to be mentioned here is the best use of permutation and combination which is integral part of most of the competitive exams are being used in melakarta system as well as in the linguistic system. The combination to arrive new alphabets (uyir and mei combo) in all indian langauages is again based on permutations and combinations

mendeleev classified solid substances on the earth. melakartha is the classification of sound in the air... haha :)
nice observation.
